Material Planner (6787710) - 18 months - Peterborough - £15.00ph

To control production and inventory control activities of selected items, to achieve maximum customer service, minimum inventory investment and efficient material flow.

Position exists at all facilities.

Incumbent may perform all or part of the duties listed below, depending on the size and make-up of the facility.

Primary responsibility is analyzing miscellaneous dependent and independent demand prior to entering into MDS.



This includes analysis of quantities, dates and when requirements should be entered (control of firm order period).

Interprets requirements planning demand needs and develops production/supplier firm and planned orders to satisfy master schedule for all dependent and independent demands.



Considers factory/supplier capacities and process constraints, customer order delivery needs, inventory economical lot investments, transportation and distribution cost.



Establishes priority of material needs, schedules orders to suppliers/factory, expedites and de-expedites and recommends use of overtime and premium transportation as necessary.



Analyzes factory/supplier delivery performance and assists in development activities to reduce cost and achieve needed capabilities.



Analyzes and resolves exception conditions such as material rejections, surplus and obsolete material disposition, contingency plans, engineering change effectivity, excessive scrap, etc.



Determines alternative supply methods due to factory operational/supplier problems, material deviations, etc., and recommends changes to master schedule as appropriate.



Reviews engineering change notice data and coordinates change with planning and execution groups/suppliers.

Analyzes source transactions affecting inventory and initiates corrective action to resolve inaccurate and timely reporting to assure maintenance of inventory accuracy.



Assists in administration of test counts and performance of inventory accuracy audits.

Prepares, reconciles and approves test and discrepancy counts, investigates reasons for required adjustments and corrects or recommends action.



Makes recommendations in development, preparation, revision and maintenance of Logistics operating procedures, policies, practices and principles.



Responsible to achieve objective and business goals such as those related to inventory turns and accuracy, internal/external supply order delivery performance, plant operational lead times, obsolete and surplus material disposition, lot sizes, etc.



Provides information necessary for systems and/or operations enhancements/improvements.

Prepares material flow process charts and establishes and maintains material lead time elements for establishment of material due dates from manufacturing operations/suppliers.



Participates in development of JIT concepts and inventory level control points.

Participates in definition of factory/supplier constraints and capabilities.

Maintains technical education status of modern technologies, techniques and methods.

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:
Requires prior experience in or knowledge of Factory, Planning, Scheduling, Inventory Control and/or Purchasing and the various Materials DP systems used.


Must have effective communication skills and sound judgment.
Working hours are Monday to Friday 8am – 5pm.
