JOB PURPOSE: • To ensure timely procurement of materials for new product development and custom products. • To ensure a smooth pathway into routine production by co-ordinating effectively with the operations supply chain team. • To support the operations supply team as required.
MAIN DUTIES and OUTCOMES: • Lead all aspects of procurement for the R&D and Custom product teams, • Support where appropriate existing product changes, commodity strategies, supplier development and partnership optimisation. • Undertake supplier sourcing for R&D projects, working in conjunction with Operations. • Project buying • Cost down and technical discussion with suppliers/potential suppliers • Getting volume production quotes • Custom product team buying • Supplier visits to assess capability to support development • Ensure relevant ERP data is entered and correctly maintained.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND/OR EXPERIENCE TYPICALLY REQUIRED: • Qualified to degree level or equivalent experience in an Engineering or Supply Chain subject • Minimum 3 years in a purchasing role within an electro-mechanical manufacturing organisation • Project Buying/New Product Introduction/Product Improvement/Product Changes • Global sourcing and buying experience • Experience of Supplier management • Contract negotiation and implementation • Strong experience of cost down activities • Have experience in using ERP business software systems, MS Office, intermediate EXCEL • Working within an ISO 9001 quality system organisation • Researching/benchmarking activities • Continuous improvements such as supplier rationalisation and outsourcing
DESIRABLE • ERP (preferably Syspro) user knowledge • Basic knowledge of regulatory approvals eg. UL, CSA, TUV etc. • Knowledge of Six Sigma / Lean / Kanban etc. • CIPS qualified • Second language
