Buyer – Peterborough – Perm - £25,000 pa
This position is a Site based Indirect Purchasing Buyer and is responsible for Capital purchases, IT Services, Engineering Services, Management Consulting, Tooling, FPMS, Construction, EHS & Travel.
Responsible for providing purchasing solutions expertise using Quality, Cost, Logistics, Development, Management (QCLDM) to deliver maximum value in developing, communicating, and/or implementing site, regional, or worldwide sourcing strategies for multiple Caterpillar business units.
Exercises independent judgment with minimal direction from supervisor.
A degree from a college or university (or equivalent) or equivalent experience.
Significant progressively responsible job-related experience.
Experience in purchasing, logistics, manufacturing, and/or engineering.
Professional certification in Purchasing and/or Inventory Management, e.g.; Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.), Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM), and/or Certified in Integration Resource Management (CIRM), or comparable international certification - preferred. Skills and Competencies: Advanced negotiation skills.
Experience leading projects as well as leading teams, suppliers, & customers to effective solutions.
Willingness to travel up to 50-75% of work time as needed. Fluency (able to read, write, understand, speak, and teach) in English.
An Understanding of QCLDM, Lean Manufacturing, and 6 Sigma principles. Ability to demonstrate skill in dealing with sensitive issues and developing others, as well as in analytical problem solving and project leadership - preferred.
Major Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic guidance (understand the current supplier base, evaluating strategic options, deciding a course of action, and beginning implementations). Team leadership (guiding decisions on sourcing, logistics, and resource management, as well as continuous process improvement and team-member mentorship). Intelligent problem-solving & customer support solutions (determining how to best satisfy Critical Customer Requirements while sustaining competitive advantage). Quality supplier relationships (developing mutually beneficial relationships with suppliers throughout the organization). Perform complex processes in critical and strategic markets. Managing policies, agreements, source catalos, and special purchasing programs. Supporting specific Product line(s) New Product Introduction (NPI) programs. The liaison with the corresponding Category/Platform based Buyers.
