The Test Data Systems Team (TDS) is part of Facilities Engineering within GED UK which forms part of the Product Development & Global Technology (PD>) business unit. TDS is responsible for installing, licensing, administering, developing, adapting and maintaining automated test software and other associated applications for the whole of GED consisting of over 40 test cells with differing testing requirements. Additionally it is the sole responsibility of the team to ensure the best quality data is available on the Caterpillar network when required by the customer groups that rely on it First and foremost, the Test Data Systems Engineer is responsible for his/her safety and the safety of co-workers and consequently must strive to ensure a safe, clean, professional work environment by completing required safety training within required timeframes, establishing safety goals, participating in monthly safety & housekeeping inspections, and demonstrating through attitude and actions that nothing is more important than safety! Reporting directly to the Test Data Systems Team Leader the individual will complete proposed changes or additions to systems, programs, or infrastructure components including hardware, software, or network.
Working solely or as part of a team the individual will produce and carry out software designs and modifications as well as developing solutions to customer related requests and/or systems problems. Customers may include internal Caterpillar organizations, suppliers and users of Caterpillar product. Responsibilities of the incumbents are along functional lines with TDS Engineering Specialist or cross discipline within Facilities Engineering working on new software/program development and/or maintenance of existing systems, PCs, Data Acquisition software, measurement instrument control communication and any tailored bespoke software. Development and integration of data acquisition software and associated subsystems and components Administration of data post processing tools and associated systems Team representative & SME in engineering project work and Facility upgrade projects Attending to breakdowns and supporting Operations if TDS Technicians require help and support or are unavailable Providing help, support and guidance to GED and Performance Engineers as required using best practices and experience. Investigating issues that occur and implementing
a permanent correct action Close collaboration with facility peers as well as internal customers, seeking out opportunities to pro-actively improve systems/software. Support of the TDS call-out rota for out of hours support. Process and flow chart creation for standard working practices that are in remit (LWIs, COPs etc) Development and/or integration of major system & software modules and programs. Knowledgeable of current operating environment, logic diagrams, testing, debugging and documentation. Specifies information flows, processes and procedures, data objects and dialogues between information systems and their users. Converts logical specifications and/or flow charts into more detailed designs; Translates design Required Talents / Skills / Knowledge Extensive knowledge of multiple facets of engine test bed control/data acquisition software applications e,g DSG DatAqPro, AVL Puma, CP Cadet, D2t Morphee etc and a proven track record of the modification, development and tailoring of such software to meet Performance & Emissions Engineers requirements. Good knowledge of High Speed Data Capture Systems such as D2t Osiris and the integration and use of within an engine test cell environment. Engine test software development experience of test cell control & instrumentation systems and key building blocks e.g AVL fuel meters, Horiba gas analysers, particulates samplers etc Proficient in design & development of individual components/modules (e.g Horiba 7xxx, Sierra BG3 etc) within the data acquisition environment as well as integrating each fully into the core software structure. Demonstrated experience of automotive tools and facilities such as Vector CANape and the use of ASAP driver and MCD3 creator in combination with the data acquisition system. Super user/Administration level of expertise with Data Post Processing tools such as AVL Concerto and National Instruments DiaDem.
