Web Developer/Account Manager – Peterborough - £35,000 - £40,000 pa

Hours Full Time (9am – 5:30pm) Monday to Friday

As well as being a key sponsor we also work very closely with PiXL providing bespoke software development services; for over three years we have helped develop numerous educational applications, all designed to assist an improve performance in schools.

What are we looking for?
As the relationship between the company and The PiXL Club becomes stronger we now have an outstanding opportunity for a talented Web developer to come on board, solely to work with PiXL.
Supporting and enhancing existing applications, as well as creating new products. You will also be expected to maintain the on-going relationship and product developments, liaising on a daily basis and attending regular client meetings at The PiXL Club HQ in central London.

Who are you?
You are a very positive, hardworking and talented developer who loves your work and enjoys learning and developing new skills. You will also have excellent communication skills, be able to work to tight deadlines and most importantly have the intellect to listen to the needs of PiXL and provide sound and reliable advice.

What should you know?
You will be responsible for end to end development of new applications, along with enhancements and support for existing applications, as such you must have a good technical knowledge of both software development practices and supporting systems/services.
You will also require a good understanding and appreciation of what makes a good user interface and user experience. You will be able to consult with other teams in the business (Design, Frontend & Backend Development) to assist you in delivering this and also further your own skills.
The existing applications primarily use PHP, JavaScript including JQuery and Knockout.JS, Memcache,
MySQL, SAML2, OAuth2, XML based templating.
Strong working knowledge of PHP in an object orientated environment, SQL, JavaScript & JQuery, HTML & CSS are essential.
Knowledge of Memcache, Single Sign On mechanisms, API authentication methods, XML and Knockout.JS are desirable.
You should have a reasonable knowledge of common web application security flaws and mitigation techniques.
Most of the applications run on CentOS as such you will be required to have a working knowledge of Linux.
There are some components which run on windows servers and are written in C# and VB however experience in these languages is not required.
Development work is currently organised via Jira, and all code is under version control using Git with Gerrit for code review. Knowledge of at least one version control system is required, knowledge of Git is desirable.

What are the key responsibilities of the role?
Managing day to day support and development requests from the PiXL Operations Team
Provide consultation on new development applications or enhancements with PiXL
Provide support and enhancements for existing applications
Develop new solutions to meet PiXL’s ongoing requirements
Work from PiXL’s London offices for 1 day every 2-4 weeks in addition to any meetings that you may be required to attend.
Co-ordinate work with our Production team where resources are required from other areas of the business (such as Design)
