Our St Ives based client is currently seeking a Proposal Engineer. Duties include:
• Supporting the UK sales team through the provision of well-considered project estimates, quotations and customized solutions.
• Preparation of proposals packs for the sales team.
• The preparation of this proposal pack also includes a review by the costing/proposals engineer of the functionality of the solution from both a mechanical and a company ability perspective
• Development of the company library to ensure that the proposals team can present professional proposals of the highest quality detailing solutions with the best functionality within the shortest time frame possible
• Based on the above, the proposals engineer will need to have, or develop, a very strong understanding of the company products and solutions
• Scientific development of the companies internal costing system to better meet the growing and changing needs of the business
• Development of standard processes and procedures to better enable the costing department to fulfill their requirements in a more speedy and efficient manner
• Preparation of costs for variations
• Seek technical assistance and consultation for projects when required
• Review of proposals from a commercial basis (acceptable level of risk, maximisation of company product sales to include service and spare parts etc)
• General commercial functions to help ensure that the company win sales and new customers
• Handover of gathered information from the sales department to the projects department for quotations converted to sales order, particularly details of any risks identified during the quotation phase. This may also require the writing of a formal project scope document.
• Review of actual costs against budget so that any changes needed to the costing system can be considered
• Work with the Finance Department to ensure that the costing of projects is consistent with the overall financial targets of the company
• Reporting to the Sales Manager
Desired Skills and Experience
• Minimum 5 years experience in Industrial Electrical / Mechanical Industry
• Deep understanding of Food Safety and Food Production Systems is a very strong advantage
• 3rd level Qualification in Quantity Surveying (Mechanical Major) or Mechanical Engineering
• A strong technical background in contracting
• A proven track record of quantity surveying fundamentals
• Ability to prepare sales layouts in 2D/3D
• Strong operational skills and attention to detail
• Experience of the design and build process
• Good presentation and general management skills
• Strong written communication abilities, and the ability to negotiate a strong commercial position for the company are also essential
• The ability to multi-task and take an overview on a large number of projects at any time
• Technical aptitude in automation & pneumatics with problem solving skills
• Experience of working with sheet metal and fabrication processes
• Travel between Ireland and the UK may form part of this role.
